Prevent Viruses
The internet is an amazing place with possibly an unlimited number of resources. Unfortunately, because of this “open architecture” and “unbridled access” it is also one of the main avenues for acquiring viruses. Between internet access and email, we are all connected. And because of this, unfortunately, a virus attack is always looming. Your computer in fact may already be infected and you may not even know it. If your computer is unusually slow or crashes periodically, it may be infected. In fact, if you do not address the problem with this computer it may in fact infect other computers on your network. The result of a virus or worm attack can include an inability to access the internet, missing icons on your desktop, missing files and many other potential problems.
There are ways, however, that you can fight back. Of course before making any changes to your computer, it’s always a good practice to make sure you have a valid backup.
One of the first forms of protection is ensuring that you have an anti-virus program in place. That said, make sure your network is protected by an enterprise level anti-virus program. This is significantly better and more cost effective than installing standalone versions on everyone’s computers. Also, you have to keep current with your anti-virus maintenance support plan so that you (automatically) always have the latest virus definition files (keep in mind – without the latest virus definition files, your level of protection will only be as good when you last paid for support).
There are quite a number of questions around this topic and we’re here to help. As a trusted technology advisor, we work with our clients to ensure their systems are secure and protected as the technology landscape continues to evolve.
