Secure Your Data
In today’s technology driven business environment, it’s more critical than ever but also more difficult than ever to ensure the security of your information. It used to be easy to think about security as being how information was stored on your network and who had access to it. But now there’s way more to it than this. Now we have the internet, remote access, VPN’s, PDA’s, iPhones, etc. Your data is literally all over the place. How you go about coming up with this list of where all of your disparate pieces of information data is stored let alone securing all of it could be a daunting task.
At the most basic level, you have to start by asking - How is your network currently protected? Do you have a firewall in place? Is it secure? Often times, having one only provides for a false sense of security. Unless you keep up with firmware upgrades and security testing over time it can just become an open window to your information.
When we’ve performed security audits for prospective clients in the past, 9 times out of 10, we will find some sort of hole in the firewall. And almost 99 times out of 100 the business owner or person responsible for the network had no idea that it was open or why it was open.
If you use email on your handhelds, do you them integrated with a business class email system or do you have individuals using desktop redirectors? What happens when that unit is lost? Can you remotely wipe the information before it falls into the wrong hands?
Do you have remote connectivity to your desktops? How is this secured? Is it secured? Not all VPN’s are the same.
Is your exit process documented and complete for when an employee is terminated? Is it performed timely? Do people have access to information when they shouldn’t have?
There are quite a number of questions around this topic and we’re here to help. As a trusted technology advisor, we work with our clients to ensure their data is secured and stays protected as the technology landscape continues to change.
